Playground Surfaces: Poured-in-Place

Poured-in-Place Applications and Benefits

OTS inventories 24 different colors and shades of EPDM granules as, well as shredded SBR rubber for surface cushion layers, and several types of BTR™ polyurethane binders to meet your needs. All three products may be combined to your specifications, packaged together, and drop-shipped to your individual job site.

Poured-in-Place Surfaces provide durable critical fall protection for children’s playgrounds, “trike tracks,” pool decks and water play areas; they are also ideal for walking tracks and fitness trails. ASTM, CPSC and ADA compliant, Poured-In-Place surfaces can be designed and poured in wonderful combinations of patterns and graphics that cannot be achieved using square tiles. Recommended to be installed only by professionals, a choice of Poured-in-Place surfacing allows limitless design freedom.

EPDM Granules

We provide only the finest quality EPDM granules.  The OTS EPDM rubber is 100% latex free.  All colors are resistant to degradation by weather, UV rays, and premature aging. EPDM granules come packaged in 55# bags, and are typically stacked 40 bags to the pallet (of course, you may order a single bag or a truckload.) Granule size is 1-3.5mm. We encourage you to “come play” with our Granules Mixer, and check out what your color mix will look like before you finalize your design. You may be surprised what a little dash of color can do to brighten up your surface - your options are as unlimited as your imagination.

SBR Rubber

Our SBR rubber granules and shreds are used to construct the base or cushion course of the Poured-in-Place surface. Packaged in 50# bags, they are typically stacked 40 bags to the pallet.  SBR rubber is 100% recycled tires and other rubber scrap that is processed, graded and free of contaminants.

BTR™ Polyurethane Binders

Quite simply, we offer the best binders in the business. OTS binders are formulated specifically for the Poured-in-Place surfacing industry for the bonding of rubber surfaces. It is manufactured with a proprietary castor oil based polyol and a non-solvent based wetting agent that lowers the trowel drag coefficient during installation.

BTR™ binders are available for several climate characteristics, including extreme conditions. Choosing the best binder for the prevailing weather improves working conditions for the installer, and assures that the installer will be able to perform his best work.

Variations of temperature, dew point and humidity affect the cure rate and workability of PU binders. Generally, high temperatures combined with high humidity result in a fast cure of the surface. Conversely, lower temperatures or humidity will extend the curing time. Consequently, our BTR™ binders are formulated with specific amounts of catalyst and wetting agents to accommodate a wide range of installation issues.  The choice of a particular binder is based not only on the prevailing weather conditions, but the ability of the installer to plan and execute his work at a speed that allows the workmen to trowel a tight and smooth surface finish. (See the BTR™ Product Data Sheet #2 for more information)

BTR™-1110 is an aromatic MDI binder containing UV stabilizers to reduce ambering from exposure to sunlight. It is suitable for use in high temperatures and high humidity conditions, and has slower curing characteristics.

BTR™-1119 is an aromatic binder with UV stabilizers and a catalyst for use in high temperatures with low humidity (arid conditions).

BTR™-1119-W is an aromatic MDI binder with UV stabilizers, a modified viscosity for low temperatures and low humidity or for cool and damp conditions.

BTR™-1103-UV is an aliphatic binder with the highest UV protection available to prevent ambering from exposure to sunlight. It has slow curing characteristics, unless ordered with special catalysts. See Technical Data Sheet #2 for additional information about this binder.

BTR™ binders are produced under ISO 9000™, and are shipped in sealed containers.
They are packaged in 5 gallon pails (44#), 55 gallon drums (465#) and totes.  Every shipment is quality controlled and traceable by serial number on each pail or drum.
